You all know that Wild and Free Mushing do just that.. Mush! We spend most of the year focusing on training and racing our happy four-legged athletes, but no matter what, with the life out on the homestead there’s always some focus on maintenance and development of the place.
There are a couple months of the year where we’re letting the dogs get a break from running in harness. During this time we focus more on getting projects done around the homestead to better life for both dogs and humans out here, as well as prepare for fall/winter. We wanted to give you a bit of a glimpse into the life at the Homestead this time of year and what we have been busy with..
We have remodeled our guest cabin and we can’t wait for guests to come enjoy it!
In the midst of summer, we were lucky to have visitors from Minnesota when Mom and Dad Sass joined us out at the homestead for a whole week in July! They helped us with projects, kept us company and treated us to great food- it was great to share both work and play!
Brent worked hard on installing high speed satellite internet for us. This ended up being quite the project but it’s all done now – we’re connected!
Dog houses are getting a good cleanup and refurbishing, as well as brand new name signs for all dogs.
End of summer means harvest/foraging to prepare for winter. We got lots of berries picked and froze and the ever so important mission of collecting firewood is underway!
With fall arriving we are also starting our “haul” season – we will be hauling out dog food and fuel (heating oil and gas) for the winter season before our road to the homestead is covered with snow and we are switching to snow machine travels the last 5mi out to the homestead. We will keep sharing some updates throughout the seasons so you have an idea of what life looks like out here at Wild and Free!
