In 2011, the Yukon Quest created the Silver Legacy Award in honor of Silver and his numerous heroic and life-saving stories during previous races.  It was originally presented at the 2011 finish banquet and when Brent was made aware of this honor for one of his long-time leaders, he said the moment was “his proudest in mushing.”

The Sliver Legacy Award is not an annual award.  It will be given to future dogs that show amazing feats of bravery on the trail. To date, no other dog has received this honor.
