Merc is part of the “Elements” litter from my main man Silver and a dog named Chicken, who was from Lance Mackey. When I was first getting my Kennel started, I bought a few dogs from Lance Mackey and in the deal, he threw in Chicken.  She was a tiny, nine-month old dog that he told me to breed with my big leader Silver. I did just that and have done it four times now and each time getting amazing dogs. All of the dogs out of the Silver and Chicken litter are named after Elements on the periodic table. Merc is the biggest race dog in my Kennel and one that has defied the odds. Weighing in at over 65 pounds, he looks exactly like is dad Silver and holds many of the same traits. It’s awesome to have him on the team because he reminds me so much of his dad. Merc usually runs in the middle of the team but when needed, he will step up and be a leader in some of the most critical times in the race. He did just that in in last year’s 2015 Yukon Quest and played a key role in getting us to the finish line in the number one spot!  Merc was again a superstar in the 2016 K300, Yukon Quest and Iditarod races. He also became a father for the first time last summer with Louise, who gave birth to six healthy pups, all named after characters from the movie Dazed and Confused!  He is a lover, just like the rest of his siblings! His fun, upbeat attitude has been and will be a key element to our success in the future.
