$1,000 – Race Checkpoint Sponsors – Food and Supply Drops

There are 8 checkpoints in the Yukon Quest and 24 in the Iditarod. At these checkpoints we receive our food drops, which is the gear and supplies needed for each section of the race. Included are dog food, human food, extra clothes, dog supplies, booties, etc. Choose your checkpoint.

Approximate Yearly Kennel Expenses:

  • Dog Food (kibble, meat, fish, fat, supplements) – $50,000 per year
  • Handler Expenses (housing, feeding, basic supplies) – $6,000 per year
  • Race Expenses (entry fee, food drops, travel costs) – $20,000 per race
  • Dog and Race Gear (harnesses, jackets, blankets, camping equipment) – $4,000 per year
  • Human Gear (boots, hats, clothing) – $2,000 per year
  • Truck and Truck Maintenance (keep 2 to 3 trucks on the road) – $8,000 per year
  • Vet & Medication (yearly checkups and medication) – $4,000
  • Tools and Equipment (chainsaws, snow machines, four wheelers) – $3,000 per year
